Substations
One must first define, configure,
and put on-line one or more substations.
Schedules
The next step is to define schedules.
Each schedule needs to be defined, configured,
and put on-line.
Feeders
To build a list of substation feeders
one needs to define each feeder, configure
it, and put it on-line by adding it to
that substation.
Each feeder must be mapped to appropriate analog points to be able to
import demand and reactive power numbers from RUEX. This can be done by
appropriately specifying RUEX domain,
remote unit, demand
analog point, and reactive power
analog point identifiers.
Capacitors
To build a list of feeder capacitors
one needs to define each capacitor, configure
it, and put it on-line by adding it to
that feeder.
Each capacitor must be mapped to a control point, which can be done by
appropriately specifying RUEX domain,
remote unit, and control
point identifiers.
Since capacitor banks can be damaged if reconnected too soon after they
have been disconnected from their feeders, respective control
point safety timers must be defined appropriately. This makes CCEX not
reconnect the banks for at least the specified amounts of time.
Each capacitor must also be mapped to a schedule
(see above).
Data Processing
RUEX analog point thresholds
must be defined (high threshold must be larger than low threshold),
otherwise CCEX does not accept analog point values as valid. CCEX also rejects any values
outside the range defined by the thresholds.
Each feeder must be configured
to either contribute its values to the owner substation or not.
Each substation must be configured
to either contribute its values to the system total or not.
Data Recording
To record system total data (demand, reactive power, and power factor, one must
enable CCEX NTMCRDR.
To record substation data, one must enable
substation NTMCRDR.
To record feeder data, one must enable
feeder NTMCRDR.
To record capacitor bank activity, one must enable
corresponding RUEX control point NTMCRDR. In addition, RUEX records
control point activity into RUEX event log file. See documentation on RUEX Control Point Operation Logging
parameter. On the CCEX side, capacitor
operation logs can be enabled, however they provide record of capacitor
operation requests to RUEX only. The latter actually performs requested
operations so RUEX log should be consulted for verification of actual control
point operations.
To generate system total management cycle logs, one must enable Management Cycle Logs parameter.
To generate substation management cycle logs, one must enable
substation Management Cycle Logs parameter.
To generate feeder management cycle logs, one must enable
feeder Management Cycle Logs parameter.
Data Archiving
One has to periodically archive data and event logs. Both operations are
manually initiated by the operator.
Data archiving is initiated by executing the CCEX Archive
Data Recording Files command. The accumulating data files get appended to
the corresponding archives located in the NTMCRDR
archive directory.
Event log archiving is initiated by executing the CCEX Archive
Event Log File command. The accumulating event log file gets copied to the
NTMC event log archive directory, common to all NTMC
components, and reset to empty.
Data recording files and event log file can be periodically
archived automatically if so desired. Care must be taken that archive
directory is always available and in the same place, otherwise archives are
scattered in different locations, and historical searches become inconvenient.
Capacitor Control
In all cases:
- Capacitor control must
be enabled.
- Management method
must be defined.
- Control parameter must be
defined.
- Global weekday
management must be enabled on the day of the week management is
to be performed.
- Global start and stop
management times of day must be defined properly. In order to be
effective, any lower level start and stop times (such as schedules) must
be at least as restrictive, or more restrictive than the global start and
stop times mentioned above.
- CCEX management period must
be defined.
- Demand and reactive
power units of measure must be defined consistent with physical
quantities imported from RUEX.
- All substation managers
involved in automatic capacitor control must be enabled.
- All feeder managers
involved in automatic capacitor control must be enabled.
- Feeder managers may have to have connect
and disconnect priorities
properly defined.
- All capacitor managers
involved in automatic capacitor control must be enabled.
- All capacitor managers involved in automatic capacitor control must heave Operation
Mode set to Auto.
- All capacitors must have Reactive
Power Rating properly defined, and greater than zero.
- All capacitors must have connect
and disconnect priorities
properly defined.
- All schedule managers
involved in automatic capacitor control should be enabled.
- Schedule weekday
management must be enabled on the day of the week management is
to be performed.
- Schedule start and stop
management times of day must be specified. Care must be taken that these
times fully overlap with, and are at least as restrictive as, or are
more restrictive than global management start
and stop times of day.
- All other schedule parameters must be properly defined in all cases.
Global Management
- CCEX Management Method
parameter must be set to Global.
- CCEX Connect and Disconnect
thresholds must be defined in units consistent with the value of the Control
Parameter. For example, if the latter is set to Reactive Power, the
thresholds must be specified in terms of VArs.
- All substations involved in global management must have Contribution
to Global parameter Enabled.
Management By Substations
- CCEX Management Method
parameter must be set to By Substations.
- Substation Connect and Disconnect
thresholds must be defined in units consistent with the value of the Control
Parameter. For example, if the latter is set to Reactive Power, the
thresholds must be specified in terms of VArs.
- Feeder Contribution to
Substation parameter must be Enabled.
Management By Feeders
- CCEX Management Method
parameter must be set to By Feeders.
- Feeder Connect and Disconnect
thresholds must be defined in units consistent with the value of the Control
Parameter. For example, if the latter is set to Reactive Power, the
thresholds must be specified in terms of VArs.
Capacitor State Reinserting
For Capacitor State Reinserting to work, CSR manager must be Enabled,
and Reinserting Period must be
defined.
