Master Controller Editor
is responsible
for editing of NTMC configuration files and databases. The sections below
highlight the program’s most important features.
On-line Access
The program is
integrated into all NTMC components, core and
modules. It is activated by pressing the button shown on the left. The button
appears not only on most system component windows, but also on many lower level
windows associated with objects which can be configured. For example, the
figure below shows MCED displaying parameters of an RTU.
Off-line Access
MCED can also be
started off-line by clicking the icon shown on
the left. This enables the operator to edit the system even when the latter is
off-line. An example where this can be useful is a situation where one or more
modules need to start up in a disabled state. Another example is when an
operator wants to prepare support for new remote units off-line without
disturbing the running system. New database components can then be put on-line
when ready.
Remote Access
The program is also integrated into remote clients. It can edit a server
resident database even when running on a remote host computer.

Ease of Use
Whenever possible MCED uses
pull-down lists such as the one shown above. It displays more elaborate
dialogs when necessary, such as when entering time and date entries. The program
also enforces parameter range restrictions. NTMC databases are
interrelated and MCED is fully aware of those relationships. For example, when a
load management load point is to be mapped to a remote unit a pull-down list of
available remote units is presented. That list is built dynamically from the
list of on-line remote units defined previously by the user.
