[User Guide]
Master Controller Event Viewer
is used
for displaying, printing, and analysis of NTMC event files. The
sections below point out some of the most important program functions.
On-line Access
The program is
integrated into all NTMC components, core and
modules. It is activated by pressing the button shown on the left. The button
appears not only on most system component windows, but also on many lower level
windows associated with objects which can generate events. When a lower level
object (such as a remote unit) window button is pressed, events related to that
object are filtered out and displayed.
Off-line Access
MCEV can also be
started off-line by clicking the icon shown on the
left. This enables the operator to view system event files even when NTMC
is down. One can also view archived event files stored elsewhere on the
computer or the local area network. This can be useful when looking for a
specific sequence of events related to a misbehaving switch, when compiling
historical events associated with a substation, etc.
Event
Filtering
The ‘Filters’ window on the right shows how one can
filter NTMC event files. In addition to time and date filtering,
one can specify event entry number and group number ranges, or look for a
keyword, such as a remote unit id. The ‘Details’ window below shows all
information stored with every event. The source file and line numbers are for
expediting system debugging. Additional filtering by subsystem source (remote
unit, load, etc.), procedure (poll, control, etc.), or event type (LOG, ALARM,
ERROR) is available as well.

Output
All event files can be archived
onto a target specified by the user, such as a directory on a network drive.
Entire file contents, or filtered output can be displayed in windows such as the
one above (click on the thumbnail to enlarge), or printed out at any time. NTMC
printing can be done on any printer attached to any host on the local area
network.
