Master Controller Executive

performs NTMC startup, shutdown, and other functions relevant to all components of the system. Except system startup and shutdown which must be operator initiated, execution of this core component is transparent. The sections below summarize the program’s most important activities.

System Startup

The program controls timing and order in which other system components are started. The core components IOEX and RUEX are started first, followed optionally by any modules consistent with the customer’s license. MCEX also allows starting up of individual components which are off-line. For Remote Clients the program controls startup of corresponding remote client components only.

System Shutdown

The program controls timing and order in which other system components are terminated. Modules shut down first, followed by RUEX, MCEX, and finally IOEX, in that order. For remote clients the program controls shutdown of corresponding remote client components only.

Subsystem Status Display

MCEX displays status of all components, core and modules. Each subsystem is shown either off-line, or on-line. In the latter case, component’s current mode is shown. Identifier of a host computer running each subsystem is displayed as well.

Midnight Procedures

The program dictates timing of midnight procedures of all system components, core and modules. This includes scheduling and queuing of various daily tasks, re-calculation of selected internal parameters. It also stops all activities while automatic system backup is being performed. This ensures a consistent set of files gets backed up every midnight.
